It is a type of Hibiscus. The Pulau wood is primarily a whiteish colored wood. It often has shades of blue, yellow, green or black running through it. It truly is an amazing type of wood. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cstrong data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eTau\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eWood - \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe rarest of all the woods that Pitcairn Islands carvings could be made from. Tau can take many many years to grow to a size of which it was gain its blackish colored wood. Tau is a very black, oily \u0026amp; hard wood. For a carver to use a Tau tree that he\/she planted they would have had to plant it at a very young age and would only be able to harvest it in the elderly years to get the black color. It is a very special wood. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eWith a metal eye screwed into the back of the carving, you can hang it anywhere in your home. All you need is a nail or a screw. This carving is also signed by the very hands of the carver. A 8th Generation of Fletcher Christian, Mutiny on the Bounty.
